warnings
The series Shinichi is from is of the horror genre (and within that, includes an abundance of psychological, sci-fi, and body horror). The alien (named Migi) alone deserves a body horror warning; he can not only shift his appearance (aka Shinichi's right hand and much of his arm) into various stretched and horrific forms, but even in his more tame states, can be on the disturbing side. Shinichi's hand commonly hosts an eyeball or two, his fingers may stretch out and become Migi's eyestalks, a mouth may be involved, etc. He is quite spider-like very often and I tend to describe his movements as such. Parasitic horror is also a huge theme of this series, and Migi will commonly be described as a parasitic entity living off of / inside of Shinichi's body. I also plan to incorporate some of the darker mental changes in Shinichi, which may touch on cannibalistic or gory themes. (It definitely wouldn't just randomly pop up in a tag out of nowhere, but just as a warning)! Themes of identity confusion and identity loss are also a core part of this character.

murderAlthough not eagerly, Shinichi has helped take part in fatally battling alien entities that have taken over human hosts. It has raised many upsetting questions β€” is it "murder" if what he's killing is no longer human, but technically has a human body? The concept has haunted him for months now, and so to be accused of such a crime will strike him very hard; "murderer" as an identity already weighs heavily on his soul. It also leads into fears of his worst nightmare, such as how he may be subtly changing to think more like one of the alien parasites, and how someday "killing things" may also involve developing an appetite for humans.

migi's abilities
transformationDespite being an "incomplete" fusion with his host, Migi is extremely formidable when he needs to be. He has the ability to change his form into basically any organic shape, to stretch himself out like rubber, to duplicate himself, and to forge Shinichi's arm and hand into whatever is needed. This includes shapeshifting into bladed weaponry (these "blades" are a staple of his species and while not organic by human standards, may be so for the parasites), tentacle-like appendages, or claws β€” but most of the time, Migi is in a tamed state. This may be an eye or two anywhere on Shinichi's hand, a mouth popping up in his palm, Migi manipulating his fingers into eyestalks so that he can look around, or stretching himself out into thin tendrils that peek out of Shinichi's clothing.

examples ➀ tame forms / weaponised forms / tentacled, whiplikle form / more tentacles whapping shit / relaxed in public (easily hideable) / relaxed in private (obnoxious eyestalk) / hiding in Shinichi's clothes
misc. inhuman capabilities Migi is capable of moving inhumanly swiftly, and of pulling Shinichi around with sheer force. He also possesses the ability to heal Shinichi, to enter other parts of his body, and to actually detach from him, leaving Shinichi without everything from the right elbow down. (However, he must return to his host within a matter of minutes, or else he will die. When he is detached, he is also significantly weaker both physically and mentally.)

Migi is able to sense the "brainwaves" of other parasites from great distances, and seems to have the ability to sense other species as well: whether they are human or not, their distance, strength, and to some extent their emotional state and whether they pose a threat to him β€” similar to how an animal would. While his abilities may seem quite aggressive, they are essentially centered around the simple need for survival. He has access to all of Shinichi's internal state as well, capable of detecting any changes within it.

It should also be noted that despite being quite formidable, Migi is certainly not indestructible. If faced against a powerful enough opponent, it's very feasible he could get injured. Fire is also particularly a weakness for him, and can cause instability in his cells β€” too much exposure can actually kill him. Cold water / cold things in general may be used as a deterrent, and causes him pain and discomfort. He generally has a difficult time with extreme changes in temperature. He also must rest / "sleep", and during these times, Shinichi regains complete control over his right hand, which becomes a normal, non-powered human hand again. Certain game events might also render the parasite in a weakened state.
extensive knowledge Notably in anatomy. While this is enhanced via studying and research, a gift for anatomical understanding is just a general feature of his species. It's something inborn, so that they're able to invade, overtake, and work a host body as needed. His inhuman intelligence also belongs in this category, as it's not necessarily a skill so much as a feature of his species; they are capable of obtaining, processing, and retaining information extremely quickly (for example, Migi learned the entire Japanese language in one day.)
background
β€’ Shinichi Izumi was an average high school student living in present-day Japan. His life was the picture of normality until one night, an unknown species fell from the skies in the form of spore-like eggs. From these little pods emerged small worm-like beings who began to follow the instinct to make their way to the brains of humans and take over them.

β€’ One such "worm" found itself at Shinichi's windowsill while the young man was sleeping. When its attempts to infiltrate Shinichi's brain were thwarted (thanks to Shinichi wearing earbuds), the parasitic creature desperately began burrowing into the boy's right arm and making its way upwards. By this point, Shinichi had woken up from the intrusion and, in a moment of panic, wrapped his earbud cord around his arm, cutting off the blood supply and succeeding in preventing the thing from going further. This meant that the creature "failed" in its mission to take over its new host's brain and instead reached maturation in Shinichi's right arm, thus "eating" and replacing it from the elbow down. Centered in Shinichi's right hand, it named itself "Migi", meaning "right".

β€’ Suddenly thrust into a bizarre nightmare that seemed straight out of some science fiction story, Shinichi soon discovered that the horrors were only growing in number. He quickly learned that this creature was not alone, and over the next weeks, encountered more of these parasites who began to show up around the city. Their appetites seemed to be for whatever species of host body they had overtaken, which meant that the majority were feeding on humans and leaving behind messy remains that prompted Tokyo to dub them the "Mincemeat Murders", thinking it the work of a serial killer. (Shinichi's parasite had no need to feed on humans, since it had only taken over his hand and therefore simply fed on the nutrients from its host's bloodstream).

β€’ Meanwhile, Shinichi alone knew the true explanation for the horrific occurrences. His guilt led him to want to turn himself into the authorities and offer his knowledge of the parasites, but he was quickly put in his place by his own hand, who threatened to remove Shinichi's ability to see, hear, or speak, should it have to. After all, its own survival was most important, and Migi would not allow anything to jeopardize that. Meanwhile, the intellectual parasite continued to develop and learn, perpetually curious about humans and its own kind alike, wanting to understand exactly what it was and why it was here.

β€’ Other parasites invading the city began to see Shinichi's and Migi's existence (a human retaining his own mind and sharing his body with a parasite) as a suspicious anomaly to be exterminated. However, Migi proved a force to be reckoned with, and he and Shinichi were actually able to defend themselves against rival parasites more easily, as they could use having two working minds as an advantage. Not that the soft-hearted Shinichi wanted to do any crime-fighting or alien-hunting, but the desperate drive to protect other humans fueled him along the very gruesome ride.

β€’ After several months of continuing to hide his secret and protect those around him, there came a time when another parasite looked into Shinichi's eyes and informed him that "although it's minimal, you're no longer pure." Disturbed and upset by this, Shinichi asked Migi what it could mean, and the parasite admitted that he wasn't sure, but it was possible that Shinichi could be undergoing changes both physiologically and psychologically, as a result of Migi being connected to him. Although it weighed heavily on Shinichi's mind, he was unable to confide in anyone about it β€” including his parents, who soon decided to take a trip out to the countryside. While initially worried for their safety, Shinichi relaxed a little when Migi informed him that the probability of his kind being out in rural areas was considerably low. While they were gone, Shinichi continued to quietly look after humankind back home, and protect whomever he could protect.
personality
β€’ Growing up, Shinichi Izumi was perhaps the definition of A Very Good Boy. In fact, his parents frequently remarked that he was too well-behaved and worried over their son often, but Shinichi was happy being a "boring" high schooler. He had always been on the shy and soft-spoken side, never one to want much attention, preferring his status as a socially awkward wallflower. His sensitivity showed itself in other ways as well: he always had a weak constitution for things like horror, violence, confrontation, and insects.

β€’ However, it is Shinichi's altruism that has truly defined him as a person. Despite being someone whom others may easily peg as cowardly or "weak", if a situation involved someone else being hurt or in trouble, Shinichi would interfere without a second thought to his own safety. This has led him to literally step into the line of fire, whether it be protecting a classmate being targeted by bullies and ending up beaten up himself, or literally moving into traffic to protect a child. He recognises that such acts can be foolhardy, but at the same time his protective nature and strong sense of altruism are not traits he's ever thought to challenge.

β€’ Because Shinichi is absolutely led by his heart, and that's what has always felt natural to him.

β€’ When Shinichi was quite literally invaded by an alien, nearly every aspect of the boy's personality was challenged. Suddenly he was now sharing his life and body with a cold, "insect-like" being without emotions, concerned solely with its own self-preservation and capable of extreme violence β€” violence that Shinichi found himself unwillingly exposed to, as he had to rely on and even help Migi deal with the other parasites in order to protect humankind. For Shinichi, who had never hurt a fly, bloodying his hands was a deep horror in him. Not to mention the nightmares involved with being hunted by monstrous parasitic organisms hiding in the brains of humans. That paranoia, the weight of having to hide this dark secret from everyone around him, and the guilt of not telling people about his situation and helping protect humanity on a larger scale, has led to a great deal of psychological turmoil that he has not remotely begun to process or even address. He now perpetually carries it with him, often making him anxious and depressive, prone to deep worrying and fretfulness.

β€’ As time wore on, Shinichi began to experience subtle, insidious shifts β€” evidence that Migi's presence within was affecting the host. This ranged from small incidents such as Shinichi no longer fearing things like insects to intensely concerning times, like Shinichi seeming to lose himself and threaten to eat people who were being cruel to others.... Another parasite even noted that Shinichi was "no longer pure". And so, a dark new fear began to blossom: that he would develop an appetite for humans, and lose his precious humanity to Migi. After all, their situation held a great deal of unknowns; even Migi didn't know what might happen in their odd case, where a parasite and its host retained their individual minds in the same body.

β€’ However, despite the moments of merging with Migi, there does remain a generally clear divide between them most of the time. If Shinichi is the emotional heart, Migi is the logical head. Perhaps the most accurate representation of them was when a girl with psychic abilities looked into Shinichi's eyes and was terrified to detect the image of a large, alien eyeball slowly opening itself wider. Migi may not have successfully taken over Shinichi's brain, but deep down, the alien is there inside the human's mind.

β€’ Personality-wise, Migi is highly curious and inquisitive to the behaviours and life of other species. He won't hesitate to act to satisfy this scientific curiosity, often putting Shinichi in the most awkward of situations. He may seem approachable: being almost childlike in his curiosity, speaking politely and formally, and even hosting a sense of humour that pops up from time to time. Yet underlying this is a frightening side to his perception in that he fully lacks human emotions and sees things from a purely tactical perspective; his purpose is to keep himself alive, and that means keeping Shinichi alive β€” at any cost. Particularly, the concept of "altruism" (which is Shinichi's defining trait) baffles him. He also possesses intelligence beyond that of human capacity and is constantly adjusting to life and researching things, learning as much as he possibly can not only about the human world but also his own existence.

Background: Given that I'm pulling Shinichi from an earlier canonpoint, I've written up the important parts of his background up until that point, since the wiki glosses over earlier development in favour of later ones. (content warnings: parasitic entities, body horror, humans being killed and eaten by aliens, themes of identity & autonomy loss.)

OUT OF CHARACTER

BACKTAGGING β€” 100%. I can happily backtag into infinity, but I'm fine discussing / assuming the rest of a scene to wrap it up more quickly at any point, as well!

FOURTHWALLING β€” I'm generally cool with this, though for anything super specific, maybe let's discuss first!

THREADHOPPING β€” I'm personally cool with this, if all parties involved are!

OTHER β€” I'm a huge fan of horror in general, and I'm very much interested in exploring and writing darker themes. I love emotional, psychological horror and all of the nuances, as well as physically ookey drippy body horror / transformations / gore / etc. I personally have no limits, but am very down to respect yours, and am just fine playing out certain horror aspects and fading to black for others, handwaving certain things if you prefer, etc.

IN CHARACTER

PHYSICAL AFFECTION β€” Shinichi's reaction (as well as Migi's) would depend on the situation / comfort level with the other person, but anything's cool with me ooc-ly. Typically, Shinichi keeps a bit of a wide berth around people due to his "situation", and can get nervous and jumpy when others get too close. It's also rare that he'll touch someone first.

PHYSICAL VIOLENCE β€” Go for it, but if Migi's awake, he's certainly a force to be reckoned with. However, apart from his right hand, the rest of Shinichi is still very human and therefore can be injured, and Migi isn't indestructible, either. If faced against a powerful enough opponent, it's very feasible he would get injured. Fire is also particularly a weakness for him, and can cause instability in his cells β€” too much exposure can kill him. Also to be noted is that while it won't kill him, cold water / cold things in general may be used as a deterrent, and causes him pain and discomfort. He has a difficult time with extreme changes in temperature.

ROMANCE / SHIPPING β€” I'm open to explore for sure! Building something organic with Shinichi would inevitably take much time / be pretty slowburn considering his situation (which I'm all for playing out!), or if you'd prefer to try assumed cr for a thread to bump things along, I'm down to discuss.

USE OF POWERS β€” I'm fine with someone using their abilities / powers around or on Shinichi! It should also be mentioned that in canon, someone possessing psychic abilities was able to detect Migi's presence within Shinichi, as well. It depends on your character's particular ability, but the potential could be there to feel him or hear his thoughts.

If they're able to get some reading of him, he may register as simply "something alien", something that feels vaguely insect-like, or as a giant eye, which was the case in-canon. I can also provide more specific details there, depending on what a character's ability would allow them to sense. Migi can also detect various things about people on an inhuman level, though we can discuss what he may or may not be able to perceive about your character first, if you wish.

BACKGROUND
Shinichi Izumi is an ordinary high school student just living his life in a quiet suburban neighbourhood in present-day Japan. Though socially awkward and rather shy, he is well-behaved and well-mannered, tending to his grades and family with care. A sensitive young man, he is easily nervous and hosts a rather weak constitution. However, he thinks with his heart, and his strong sense of altruism often leads him to acts of bravery in the form of stepping in to help others without a second thought, even at his own expense.

An unknown alien species falls from the sky one night. The creatures' ultimate agenda is unknown, but the immediate plan of action seems to be to overtake human host bodies by infiltrating the brain. One of these "parasites", in its "infant" wormlike stage, finds its way onto Shinichi's windowsill while he's sleeping. Unable to get into the teenager's brain due to his wearing earbuds, the parasite frantically tries burrowing into his right arm and crawling up that way. Shinichi manages to stop this by temporarily cutting off the blood supply in his arm with the earbud cord. This does stop the creature from moving upwards, but unfortunately, it has already made a home and reached maturity inside of him, and taking over what it was able to, which is everything below Shinichi's right elbow (and mainly functioning as his right hand). From there, Shinichi's journey with the self-named Migi (translating to "right" in Japanese) begins.

Trying to adjust to life with a sentient alien arm and keep Migi hidden as much as possible becomes Shinichi's existence. There is also the fact other parasites start emerging who have successfully taken over their human host's brains and perceive his and Migi's bizarre co-existence as an anomaly to be exterminated. Inevitably, this pair has to team up to take them down instead β€” their opposite personalities and viewpoints leading them to initially clash, but over time learning how to work together with the combination of Migi's logical head and Shinichi's emotional heart. Shinichi is also facing subtle, darker changes in his own personality and behaviour as a result of the literal nightmares he's experiencing, the blood now on his hands, and fusing with Migi. He is terrified at the thought of losing his humanity and developing any sort of appetite for humans.

CW: This character comes with some body horror by default in the form of a parasitic alien entity living in his arm / hand. Mostly this just means that his hand will commonly have an eye and a mouth in it. Any ookier transformations will have specific content warnings!

BRAVE NEW WORLD
I. IN THE SILO

( There's barely time to process anything before Shinichi feels himself pulled into a nightmare. Butβ€” no, this isn't a nightmare, this is very real, even if it all feels impossible. Then again, Shinichi Izumi is no stranger to impossible things.

This is certainly a new one, though. The young man blinks widely, eyes struggling to adjust to the space he's so abruptly found himself trapped in, to make sense of it. He realises that he's having a hard time moving and his heart gives a panicked jolt, limbs thrashing a bit, but each movement is weirdly slow, like he's fighting against sand. No.... not sand, the strange little objects sifting around his body and that his hands uselessly scoop against are a bit bigger than that..... Seeds?!
)

Migiβ€”! ( Shinichi immediately cries out the name, but there's no response, no grotesque shift of his right arm into something that can help save him from this. His heart's skipping beats now; is the alien sleeping? Or..... maybe he's not here at all? How's he going to survive this on his own?

Suddenly Shinichi hears movement from somewhere that sounds close (is it someone else trapped in here, too? Or maybe someone who's managed to escape, peering in?) and the boy's calling out for them, coughing against grain dust and a few rogue seeds that make their way into his mouth as he struggles. Each shove of his arms and legs only seems to push him further downwards.... the mental image is of quicksand, and there's something desperate to his tone.
)

Is someone else there??

II. ON THE WAY TO ALDRIP

( Shinichi has survived the bowels of the grain silo....... and has found himself in the center of a whole new confusion. It's all decidedly overwhelming, and although he spends a bit listening in to people's conversations and asking a few questions to those who seem to know what they're doing, he soon enough needs to Take A Moment. The boy finds a quiet spot a bit off and away from the chaos of things, moving to sit down right on the ground, long legs folded inwards and crossed.

This is.... insane. He's been brought to a new world? But how...? Why? (He hasn't examined that parchment yet, doesn't know what it says, which for the moment is likely a mercy. Reading what it says will change everything.)

Shinichi sits there quietly. He was told he should head to a town β€” Aldrip β€” but it's not a name he recognises, doesn't sound anything like where he comes from. Fear tightens his throat, and he's starting to feel overwhelmed again when suddenly a soft voice stirs awake and pipes up from his hand. It's robotic, feminine, devoid of emotion or much nuance. Usually that voice makes him cringe a little, but right now Shinichi's feeling a sweep of relief. Migi.

He sits there for a few moments, explaining to the alien what exactly has happened up until now, the both of them chatting quietly to each other. Shinichi's always careful, keeping his hand tucked close to his lap as he leans over it β€” if you amble up, you might see what looks like a young man... talking to himself. To his palm? He's probably fine.

Or, if you're quiet enough to draw near before he can take notice of you, you might actually see what it is that the young man's talking to. You might catch a glimpse of it β€” a round, golden eye peering up from the palm of that hand, and a mouth. Of course, as soon as you spot the Thing, the Thing will also spot youβ€” and that eye will swivel to stare widely in your direction.
)

WE LIKE TO PARTY
( Shinichi's method for dealing with all of this is just to kind of, go along with it. A mindset that's certainly encouraged by Migi, who's wanting to observe and learn as much about this world as he possibly can, the analytical parasite making notes on everything and everyone. And so while parties of any sort are hardly Shinichi's choice of environment even back in his own world, here he finds himself forced from the safety of the inn and standing awkwardly around the festivities.... Migi guides him where to go and what to do β€” mostly hovering around watching people so he can get closer to what's going on and give the parasite plenty to observe.

Throughout the evening, Shinichi can be found doing just that, at several times with his hand cupped gently to his ear so that Migi can speak to him like that (pay no attention to the boy wandering around whispering like he's on an invisible cellphone....) Or maybe you encounter him ambling up to sample some food or drink (once again, this is for Migi's Observation Purposes). Shinichi looks nervous and a little nauseated, but he'll offer shy smiles nonetheless, and speak up to people along the way β€” "What world do you come from?" or "How long have you been here?" as conversation starters.

Or maybe you become the victim of a Migi Crime..... The alien's careful, sneaky, but you might catch him in the act regardless. A hand deftly reaching its way into your coat pocket to steal an item, or trying to gently swipe jewelry or other such things that might be on your person..... Anything remotely interesting or simply shiny is at risk, here.
)

PLEASE PARTY RESPONSIBLY
( It's Migi's Curiosity that led Shinichi here, too β€” carefully poking around whatever spaces he can, nervous but perpetually led around by the one who really wears the pants in this relationship.... Certainly medical care and what exactly may be offered here would appeal to the alien's interest. It's also a prime environment for learning more about the residents of this place.

Inevitably, it means Shinichi ends up helping out around the place, suddenly roped in to playing nurse for a few hours. And so he's bustling around carrying supplies or helping administer medicines for various purposes β€” and he does have the added advantage of housing an entity who has an extensive knowledge of human anatomy. The thing is, everyone here might not actually be human.... Oh, there's plenty for a curious alien to wonder about.

Maybe you're also helping out and Shinichi keeps gently bumping into you as he hurries here and there, or maybe you're a patient here for some reason. In which case, the boy will make his way to your bedside, wearing a shy but warm smile as he asks you what's going on and offers to help.

    π—£π—˜π—₯π—¦π—’π—‘π—”π—Ÿπ—œπ—§π—¬ β€”

Being quite literally invaded by an alien does things to a person. Not only has Shinichi's life experiences as of late been shaped by that abrupt forced factor into his life, but his personality has been affected by it as well.

Growing up, he was perhaps the definition of A Very Good Boy. In fact, his parents frequently remarked that he was too well-behaved (his only real dark deed being to accidentally cause his mother to burn herself with hot oil when he was really young, leaving a large scar on her arm that would always remain a source of guilt in Shinichi's gut) and worried over their son often, but Shinichi was happy being a well-mannered, boring, high schooler. He had always been on the shy and soft-spoken side, never one to demand attention or even seek it out in small doses, preferring his status as a wallflower. Social awkwardness was part of the package as well, but he did have a close-knit little group of friends (100% girls; most of the boys his age and their interests were far too rough for his gentle demeanour). His sensitivity showed itself in other ways as well: he always had a weak constitution for things like horror, violence, confrontation, and insects.

However, it is Shinichi's altruism that has truly defined him as a person. Despite being someone whom others may easily peg as cowardly or "weak", if a situation involved someone else being hurt or in trouble, Shinichi would interfere without a second thought as to his own safety. This has led him to literally step into the line of fire, whether it be protecting a classmate being targeted by bullies and ending up beaten up himself, or moving into traffic to protect a child. He recognises that such acts can be foolhardy, but at the same time his protective nature and strong sense of altruism are not traits he's ever thought to challenge.

Because Shinichi is absolutely led by his heart, and that's what has always felt natural to him.

So then that aforementioned alien invasion happened, and literally every aspect of Shinichi's personality was challenged. Suddenly he was host to something not only outright terrifying in appearance, but also capable of extreme violence -- violence that Shinichi found himself unwillingly exposed to, as other parasites became hostily drawn to him and Migi, forcing the pair to have to destroy them first. For Shinichi, who had never hurt a fly and never wanted to, bloodying his hands was something he couldn't come back from. Not to mention the nightmares involved with being hunted by monstrous parasitic organisms hiding in the brains of humans. The paranoia from that, coupled with having to hide this dark secret from everyone around him, led his psychological state to be quite tested.

There was also the fact that he was now sharing his life and body with a cold, "insect-like" being without emotions. Something the complete opposite from himself, who was concerned solely with its self-preservation. This challenged many of Shinichi's values and morals, he and Migi frequently clashing over their ways of thinking and behaviours. Suddenly terms like "right" and "wrong", "justice" and "mercy", and "kind" and "cruel" began to fall on a more grey spectrum for the human boy. He initially fought it hard, viewing Migi just as much an "alien" to him as the parasite did Shinichi. They only used each other as needed, Migi relying on Shinichi's body for literal substance and Shinichi relying on Migi to protect him (and therefore his loved ones) from the other parasites.

Inevitably, as time wore on and they were forced to help each other's mutual goal of surviving day-to-day by combining each other's strengths and covering each other's weaknesses, he began to feel a sense of unease that he was starting to be able to understand Migi in ways his past self would have balked at. The most disturbing part of this, however, were not the ways he consciously began bonding with Migi, but the ways he subconsciously was growing to. The moments were small and insidious -- for example, Shinichi no longer experiencing some of his usual fears, things that Migi would perceive as irrational. More extreme examples included Shinichi literally threatening to eat a group of teenage boys who were hurting a cat (not to worry, Shinichi saved the little dude). The boys threw rocks at Shinichi, causing Migi to swoop in and catch them, and threaten to... eat the perpetrators, speaking through or perhaps mentally fused with, his host.

So a new fear began to blossom in Shinichi: that he would develop some sort of appetite for humans, and lose his precious humanity to Migi. After all, their situation held a great deal of unknowns -- even Migi didn't know what might happen in their odd case, where a parasite and its host retained their individual mindsets when they were originally supposed to fuse. It was a sort of catch-22: they were starting to be able to work together more efficiently as one unit...but to sometimes literally merge into one mind, as well.

In a nutshell, Shinichi Izumi is the result of someone who fell victim to a very bizarre experience by chance. None of his character traits have really changed -- he's still the same polite, mild-mannered, sweet, and altruistic person that he was before. But these traits have certainly been challenged and have been slowly, subtly evolving to where sometimes he's not sure if those things are really him anymore, or if he's having to grasp onto them instead. There's also the fact that carrying the weight of everything he has gone through has taken some of the "innocence" away from him. He may seem almost comically awkward and out-of-place on the surface, but beneath that there is something darker and heavier. He's been exposed to things that he can't return from, and having to emotionally and physically withdraw from his loved ones in order to hide Migi has taken an extremely heavy toll on him, as well.

Despite the moments of merging with Migi, there does remain a rather clear divide between them most of the time. If Shinichi is the emotional heart, Migi is the logical head. But perhaps the most accurate representation of them could be described when a young girl who had psychic abilities looked into Shinichi's eyes and was terrified to detect the image of a large, alien eyeball slowly opening itself wider and wider. Migi may not have successfully taken over Shinichi's brain, but deep down, the alien is inside the human.

Personality-wise, Migi is highly curious and outright inquisitive to the behaviour and life of other species. He will not hesitate to act on his own to satisfy this scientific curiosity, often putting Shinichi in the most awkward of situations. He may seem approachable: being almost childlike in his curiosity, speaking politely and formally, and even hosting a sense of humour that pops up from time to time. Yet underlying this is a rather frightening side to his personality in that he lacks human emotions and sees things from a purely tactical perspective; his purpose is to keep himself alive, and that means keeping Shinichi alive -- at any costs. He possesses intelligence beyond that of human capacity and is capable of acquiring information in an incredibly short amount of time. He is constantly adjusting to life, learning as much as he possibly can not only about the human world but also his own existence, and spending long nights awake reading books or doing research online.

The series Shinichi is from is of the sci-fi / psychological / body horror genre, and much of his history and character reflects that.

Migi alone deserves a body horror warning. He can not only shift his appearance (aka Shinichi's right hand and much of his arm) into various stretched and horrific forms, but even in his more tame states, can be a tad on the disturbing side. Shinichi's hand commonly hosts an eyeball or two, his fingers may stretch out and become Migi's eyestalks, a mouth may be involved, etc. He also is quite spider-like very often and I tend to describe his movements as such.

I also plan to heavily incorporate the darker mental changes in Shinichi, which may touch on cannibalistic and gory themes. (It is a dark fear in Shinichi that he might develop some sort of appetite for humans. When experiencing extreme fear, anger, or other negative emotions, he and Migi sometimes seem to briefly merge mentally, resulting in Shinichi thinking like one of the alien creatures from back home. He has threatened to eat people in the heat of the moment and seemingly forgotten about it afterwards). The warp feature in Deerington means I also plan to play up more of the parasitic nature of Migi (having him drain Shinichi's nutrients more often, and writing out more about Migi being inside of his body).

This character also comes with emotional/psychological trauma, and may often display the symptoms of PTSD. His history includes the brutal death of his mother and witnessing a number of ookey aliens killing people and hunting after him, which has imbued a sense of frightful paranoia into him.

If you prefer not to get tags from him, from interactions involving Migi, or specific forms of Migi's, I have an opt out post. It would be very easy to just have Migi not pop up around your character if you would like to get to know Shinichi without his parasite. It's 100% canon for there to be times he's asleep, and the effects of Deerington means he gets tired and weak a lot more. Or there are many times he's simply observing things sneakily rather than showing himself, in which case Shinichi is just a teen with some very awkward habits that come along with having a hand with a mind of its own, meaning I can keep the outright physical alien parts out of it.

Shinichi Izumi was an average high school student living in present-day Tokyo, Japan. An only child, his life was the picture of normality. However, one night, an alien species fell from the skies in the form of spore-like eggs which floated around with the wind: landing on trees, windowsills, mailboxes, in the grass... etc. From these pods emerged small worm-like beings, almost harmless-looking, almost cute -- save for the drill-esque feature at the tip of their heads which would allow them to burrow into the flesh of a nearby host body....

From there, the alien creatures began to follow the instinct to make their way to the brains of humans and take over them. However, some of them would end up failing at this task, taking over other living organisms instead -- such as dogs or cats. Some of them would fail at making it all the way to the brain, reaching maturation in another part of the body instead.

One such "worm" found itself stunned when trying to get into the ear of the young boy sleeping in his bed that night (Shinichi had earbuds in, making entry impossible). After another failed attempt to enter the boy's nose, the creature desperately began burrowing into his right arm and making its way upwards. By this point, Shinichi had woken up from the intrusion and rightfully began to panic, sleepily thinking it was a snake currently crawling its way through his arm. In a moment of quick thinking, he wrapped his earbud cord around his arm, cutting off the blood supply and succeeding in preventing the thing from going further.

After his parents rushed into the room to see what the commotion was about, they dismissed the ordeal as a nightmare, and Shinichi was stunned to discover there was no wound in his arm or any other evidence of what had happened. Perhaps it was a nightmare...

The next morning, Shinichi returned to his usual routine -- except there were odd changes that seemed to have happened over night. For one thing, he found his appetite had doubled. For another, he almost mindlessly glanced over a spider as if he had to remember his deep fear of insects.

And then there was the tiny little fact that his right hand seemed to have a mind of its own. Throughout the day, it proceeded to move in odd ways, grab, touch, and fiddle with an assortment of things, and even help itself to using his phone to do research in the middle of class while he dozed off (Shinichi of course getting in trouble for this.) However, it was the eyeball Shinichi spotted staring out of his hand later on that really suggested something was not quite right. Fueled by his fear and emotions, Shinichi decided to pull a knife out on this devious hand and threaten it. Needless to say, this did not go over well. His hand grabbed the knife, forced it from him, and hurled it at the wall - - then began to morph and distort into a mess of eyes and a drooling mouth...which informed him it couldn't speak well yet, and that it had "failed", before disappearing again.

It didn't take long for the creature to learn how to speak well, and the next time it made an appearance, Shinichi learned that because he stopped its journey to his brain, it reached maturation in his right arm, and thus "ate" and replaced his arm from the elbow down -- centered mainly in his hand. He also discovered that this creature was not alone, and over the next weeks, encountered more of these parasites who began to show up around the city. Their appetites seemed to be for whatever species of host body they had overtaken, which meant that the majority were feeding on humans and leaving behind messy remains that prompted Tokyo to declare there being a serial killer on the loose. (His parasite had no need to feed on humans, since he had only taken over Shinichi's hand and therefore simply fed on the nutrients from his host's bloodstream).

Meanwhile, Shinichi knew the true explanation for the horrific occurrences. His guilt led him to want to turn himself into the authorities and offer his knowledge of the parasites, but he was quickly put in his place by his own hand, who threatened to remove Shinichi's ability to see, hear, or speak, should it have to. After all, its own survival was most important, and Migi (the literal term for Shinichi's "right" hand), would not allow anything to jeopardize that. Challenges also quickly presented themselves in the form of the other parasites seeing the boy and his hand as an anomaly to be exterminated. A human retaining his own mind and sharing his body with one of them? Better to be put out of their miseries. Except Migi proved a force to be reckoned with, and he and Shinichi were actually able to defend themselves and kill off rival parasites more easily, as they could use having two working minds as an advantage. Not that the soft-hearted Shinichi wanted to do any crime-fighting or alien-hunting, and he simply remained along for the very gruesome ride. While trying to adjust to life with this sentient, alien right hand, keep all of it a secret from those closest to him, and hang onto his humanity which seemed to be subtly changing in the process.
